I went to Venice with my sister, we stayed 5 days in Centrale Hotel that is located in Mestre, to go to center of Venice - Old Town we had to catch a bus and about 15 to 20 min take a bus ride to get to the center of Venice then you are in very close to Grand Canal and you just follow the crawd.

The hotel costed me 40 euros per night. We had double room with bathroom and a balcony. Room was sunny. Bed was big and comfy. We had even satellite tv but with only italian channels. The one turn off was that there was no free internet (no hot spot) only paid one. The only one free access to the internet I found in McDonald in Venice.
